How to use Viral Marketing to get backlinks?

What is Viral Marketing?

On the Internet, viral marketing is any marketing technique that induces Web sites or users to pass on a marketing message to other sites or users, creating a potentially exponential growth in the message's visibility and effect. One example of successful viral marketing is Hotmail, a company, now owned by Microsoft, that promotes its service and its own advertisers' messages in every user's e-mail notes.

We can create a successful viral campaign without having to re-mortgage your house by following some simple rules:

  • Make it interesting and give people a reason to spread it. People love telling others how clever they are and there is a reason why there are so many viral IQ quizzes around that are, shall we say, perhaps a little bit biased. Inflating people's egos for any other reason works really well too.
  • It needs to be easy to spread, no more than a few clicks to send to a friend. If it's overly complicated and people have to "work" to spread it, it is bound to fail.
  • Make it easy to embed links on Web sites.
For example, you can embed links with the results of the quizzes. Or, you can incorporate a badge that bloggers can display on their site. On the other hand, if the viral "bait" was really good people would link to it naturally anyway.

It must be noted that viral marketing will fail if you don't "seed" it by giving it the bump start it needs. Viral marketing needs people to spread it, so you need to get your clever campaign in front of as many eyeballs as possible at the beginning. There are hundreds of creative ways to get it going initially, but here are some of the top techniques used today:
  • Contacting popular blogs and seeing if you can get a mention
  • Getting it popular on a social network such as Digg.com
  • Buying advertising on a popular social network such as Facebook
  • Mailing your entire list of contacts and hoping for the best
Viral marketing isn't difficult, but as it becomes more popular it naturally becomes very competitive. Smart people are all vying for the same time and attention, particularly as standards increase and viral marketing becomes even more sensational and attention grabbing. That is, until people get really tired of it and marketers find something else to do.

Our team of web marketing experts at Levonsys will create a SMO strategy that will give your website a good position and exposure in Social Media websites, which in turn will generate targeted traffic and also help create customer loyalty, brand identity among your targeted customers.

How Google Ranks Tweets in Search Results?

Google started to display real-time results in addition to the regular top 10 pages on their search result pages. The real-time results are meant to offer web searchers access to brand new news items as fast as possible. The main element of Google's real-time results are tweets. Tweets are the real-time messages that Twitter users post on Twitter.com.

PageRank for tweets

Google's PageRank algorithm looks at the link structure of a web page. The more websites link to a website and the more websites link to the linking websites the more relevant is the linked website.
Tweets are not about links but about followers. On Twitter.com, people "follow" the comments of other Twitter users. The more followers a Twitter user has, the more reputable are the tweets of that user. If Twitter users that have many followers follow another Twitter user then these users will have a larger impact on the reputation of that user.

Additional filters and algorithms

The follower reputation rank is only one of Google's methods to rank tweets
Hashtags

Twitter users often use "hashtags" in their comments. Hashtags are symbols that start with a # followed by a popular topic, for example #earthquake. If such a hashtag is included in a tweet, the tweet will show up in the real-time results when other Twitter users click the hashtag's topic word elsewhere on the site.

Spam

While hashtags can be useful to maximize the exposure of a tweet, they are also often abused for spamming. The wrong hashtags can serve as a red flag that triggers Google's spam filters.

The Signal in the Noise

There can be thousands of tweets that contain a very popular word such as "Mikel". To find the relevant tweets, Google looks for "signals in the noise". Such a signal can be an increasing number of tweets that mention other words near mentions of "Mikel", for example "newyork police". The tweets with the signals will be chosen for the real-time results.
The problem with Google's real-time results is that they don't last. The time and efforts that you have to invest in getting listed in Google's real-time results is better spent on optimization for Google's regular results. If your website is listed in Google's regular results, it will usually stay there for a long time.

In the present Internet era where billions of website are being surfed every day it is not enough merely to own a website or creating a website with good look but it is also very important to make it reachable to the targeted visitors and provide them with all the essential elements to convert them into potential customers. Levonsys offers a complete selection of search engine optimization and social media optimization services to increase visibility and enhance search engine traffic.

Use Social Bookmarking the Right way for Effective Online Marketing

Most, if not all, online marketers are aware of the two most popular internet marketing strategies search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM). But there is another newcomer to join the ranks of effective marketing strategies social bookmarking. Bookmarking is originally used to provide users the chance to store their favorite bookmarks on the web and share them with friends, relatives and other users. Ever since its popularity, marketers have been using its benefits in enhancing their marketing efforts.

I’m sure you would’ve seen those little buttons on every site, that has Digg, Stumbleupon and Delicious links in it. What are they?

Well, it’s a common practice these days that webmasters place the shortcuts to the social bookmarking sites from their each story. The buttons you see on websites help you to submit the story to any of those social bookmarking site just in a click. So if you find an interesting story on the internet, all you got to do is bookmark it clicking one of those buttons.
Popular Bookmarking Sites
As in any category there are hundreds of websites out there that does the job fairly good. But there are only a few that are popular. Some of them are Digg.com, Delicious.com, Reddit.com, Newsvine.com etc.

Why people use them?

So why do people use social bookmarking sites? Of course the primary objective is to save interesting website information for later use and share it with others. But in the new web 2.0 times people put social bookmarking sites to more uses such as traffic generation and link building.

Traffic Generation
Since the popular social bookmarking websites like Digg.com has a very large userbase, if a bookmark is favored by many (if it get’s popular that is), then the chances of that website getting traffic from all of those users are very high. Because logically, as more and more people keep bookmarking a website, more and more people are likely to visit the site.
Link Building
Some webmasters use social bookmarking for link building purposes as well. But this is only possible with those social bookmarking sites that has the "do follow" link tags. What happens here is that, when a webmaster submits a site link as bookmark to one of the dofollow social bookmarking sites, they are in turn getting a link back to their websites. Most often the social bookmarking sites are on a higher reputation with Google, and carries higher page rank and link juice. Therefore the webmaster gets the benefit of each back link from the social bookmarking sites.

How can internet business owner benefit from social bookmarking sites?

Internet business owners can benefit from social bookmarking sites more than anyone else. The reason is that a majority of the internet business owners potential audience forms the social bookmarking community. And if an internet business owner can tap the heavy traffic from the social bookmarking community, the benefits are double fold.

What is Social Bookmarking (in Internet Marketing Terms)

Social Bookmarking is an excellent tool that has huge potential for traffic generation and boosting your website to stardom in no time. Internet marketers are in the constant pursuit of getting the maximum mileage for their websites and businesses using the social bookmarking sites and their community. To them, the social bookmarking community is a gold mine of traffic and potential clients. However, reaping the benefits of the social bookmarking community is not easy. And not everyone can actually get popular on the social bookmarking sites that quickly. The social bookmarking community is very sensitive and biased most of the times that they have a similar taste and opinion. Like for instance the community on Digg is very favorable to topics on technology, while reddit or delicious are social bookmarking sites that has a crowd inclined to news items. Based on the content of each bookmarking sites, internet marketers try and leverage on their businesses.

How to and How not to do Social Bookmarking

  • Never submit articles just for the sake of promoting your own articles.
  • Participate in the community first to gain some respect.
  • Actively communicate with the community and it’s members.
  • Don’t do self promotion first, try helping others instead.
So essentially, social bookmarking is an effective way to increase traffic to your websites , if you do it the right way. All social bookmarking community has its rules of play and most of the times, one should be an active player in the community to enjoy the benefits of it.

How to Use Social Media to Boost Your Web Traffic

If you want to reach your market, you need to be using social media. Three-quarters of Americans now use social media. Social media is growing three times faster than the Internet overall.

Social Media Optimization (SMO) is a way of generating popularity for a website through social medias like popular online communities and community websites. It is in many ways like viral marketing where a website is made popular through word of mouth created through the use of networking in social bookmarking, video and photo sharing. SMO are the best ways to get traffic to a website as they provide free ways to the surfer. This can greatly enhance the traffic to a website and that too for free or at very little cost. SMO is also called web 2.0 marketing.

Social Media Optimization has proved to be a better way of attracting traffic to a website and getting the site optimized than Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It focuses on driving traffic from sources other than search engines and thus it gives improved search ranking.

Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter can help you promote your business. Surveys show that nearly 80% of users would rather add the “brands” as their friend than letting companies advertise these to them.

Twitter
Twitter allows users to post text updates via SMS, instant messaging, email, Twitter’s website and third party applications. Users have their own profile page that displays their latest updates. In addition, users can become “friends” with one another, or simply be a “follower.” Other than reading another person’s profile page, a user can also receive others’ updates through text messages, RSS or third party applications.

Twitter has become extremely popular. Microblogging, writing short messages commenting on what’s happening right now, may give a company some exposure. Many companies seem to just feed their blog RSS feed into Twitter and leave it at that.

Facebook
Facebook is the largest online social networking site and currently has over 400 million users. Facebook allows people to interact, share photos, and find people. In addition to using Facebook for social purposes, many people use it professionally for business networking.

More and more businesses with an online  presence  will  link  users to a Facebook page. They will also frequently use Twitter and RSS feeds. Facebook has  become an integral part of online marketing strategies, and users  are  able  to connect to numerous sites using their Facebook Log-In. http://twitter.com/http://www.tradima

There are also Fan Pages on Facebook. This  is  a  relatively new offering. Fan Pages are targeted more toward a  specific entity rather  than  an  individual social  networking  with friends and family. Just because they  are labeled Fan Pages does not necessarily mean that the entity is a celebrity,  a band,  etc. Fan  sites  can  be  created  for  anything, especially online stores. More and more businesses are making use of Fan Pages to target their users to a Facebook entity that represents their enterprise.http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.phphttp://mashable.com/2009/03/30/successful-facebook-fan-page/http://www.smbtrendwire.com/2009/02/03/facebook-online-business-marketing-advanced-tactics

Digg

Digg.com is a popular social bookmarking and content discovery website. Although site management and maintenance is done the website's paid staff, all the content is submitted by the site's visitors on a voluntary basis. These submissions are subject to peer review and are voted upon by other site visitors. Popular submissions are posted on the websites' homepage, exposing the submission to millions of visitors. According to alexa.com, Digg.com is one of the most popular websites on the internet, reaching 1 out of every 100 internet users daily.

While Digg.com currently allows  submissions  in  six  categories  -  Entertainment, Gaming, Science, Technology, Videos,  World  &  Business - the vast majority of submissions fall into the Science  and Technology categories. This is partly because the original configuration of the Digg.com website  had  14  categories,  all  subsections  of  the  present Technology or Science categories.

Delicious
Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows users to tag, save, manage and share web pages from a centralized source. With emphasis on the power of the community, Delicious greatly improves how people discover, remember and share on the Internet.

Things we can do with Delicious
- Bookmark any site on the Internet, and get to it from anywhere
