What is Acquisition in Social Media?

It’s important to define what you acquisition strategy per social channel. Your acquisition strategy for Facebook, Your Blog, Twitter, or LinkedIn will each have its own strategy and pull points. When amassing fans I always say go with quality over quantity. Your social presence should be an extension of your brand’s voice. To build that foundation, establish and invite your core customers.

Begin by communicating to your existing database and announcing your brand’s places of contact (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) via e-mail. In addition, link to your profiles and pages on your website at every opportunity.

Key Questions for Acquisition

  • Why should someone follow you or your company?
  • Intimately know your target market then ask yourself how does social media play a role into my target markets life?
  • What can you offer or what are their expectations from you?
  • What are the acceptable offers within this channel (think Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn as channels)
  • Is this channel strictly inbound or outbound?
  • How do I integrate my other marketing channels to support and acquire an audience within the social space?

Tell them what they get

A great illustration of this concept comes from a radio commercial I hear from time to time. This commercial is about a chain of weight loss centers. Towards the end of the commercial you hear the announcer say… “you can now find us on Facebook and Twitter”.
What would be more effective and still fit within the space available is something along the lines of “find us on Facebook and Twitter for exclusive weight loss advice”. It’s not enough to state that you can be found within social media - you have to go that extra step and clearly state the benefit someone gets for following you.

Segmentation

An important point when engaging within the social space is asking whether or not you need an inherent segmentation strategy. For instance, Apple has an Itunes Facebook page and an AppStore Facebook page. When you segment out your product bases like this it allows you to easily craft messages and follow the three core steps we outline below.
It also does another very important thing. It allows your audience and customer to segment themselves out. If someone is just a fan of one of your products then they only care about that product. With Apple if you only care about Itunes and Music you join the Itunes page where you get special music related content. If you care about applications you join the AppStore Facebook page.

Our team of web marketing experts at Levonsys will create a SMO strategy that will give your website a good position and exposure in Social Media websites, which in turn will generate targeted traffic and also help create customer loyalty, brand identity among your targeted customers.

iPhone Microsites

The release of Apple’s iphone revolutionized mobile phone technology and web browsing with its ease of use. One of the most talked-about features of the iphone has been its ability to use Safari to browse the “real” Internet. However, until recently, this appealing idea has proven to be less than rewarding insofar as the larger pixel configuration used by most websites designed to display information on a full screen did not translate well to the iphone’s different shape and size. Because of that, the iphone’s ability to see and access data and pictures on most websites was plagued by problems and content which was hard to read and interact with until now.

Enter the iPhone Microsite

We’re beginning to see the arrival of websites formatted specifically to fit the iphone’s small screen and unique configuration. In addition, we’re seeing techniques developed that make iphone compatible websites capable of visually displaying and selling products, over secure satellite connections, and accessed by mobile phones from anywhere in the world.
This phenomenal event opens up vast new, previously untapped, worldwide markets to every company (big or small) seeking to increase their market share and to every individual who has a product to sell - a marketer’s dream. Overseas demand for US goods is known to be high because of differences in foreign exchange rates. The unique websites that make this all possible are called iphone microsites.

Usability

Some of the many features which make mobile browsing so advantageous for iphone users also present new usability concerns of which regular website owners and developers should be aware.
Unlike traditional websites, an iphone microsite is properly formatted to display on iphone and ipod touch. It is capable of faster browsing due to optimized content, enhanced link highlighting to assist in navigation, and graphics and buttons that work seamlessly with the iphone’s finger browsing. It looks, behaves and responds in the same manner as a typical iphone application.
A microsite enables horizontal scrolling by limiting columns to a width of 320 pixels when held upright (or 480 pixels when held sideways), a standard practice for iphone applications. It typically uses larger fonts to minimize unnecessary zooming and it breaks content up into more appropriately sized blocks.

Accessibility

A microsite may compliment a regular website by automatically detecting and reacting to iphone visitors, allowing a business owner to serve them optimized content. It can also stand alone, being identified with a unique url separate from the one used for your main Web site, and often denoted by adding an iphone prefix (iphone.yoursite.com).

iPhone Optimized Website - Advantages

Now-a-days millions of users are surfing the web using an iPhone or iPod touch. StatCounter research finds MobileSafari is the number one mobile browser in the US and number two globally. If you run a website, chances are good that users have visited your site using these devices. Here are a few advantages to presenting iPhone-optimized website content to your visitors.

Give your users access to iphone features and applications

With an iPhone-optimized website your visitors can now tap into the rich power of multi-touch and advanced content rendering capabilities of the iPhone hardware and software.

Your site visitors can call, email or text message you, look up directions to your business in the built-in Google Maps application, watch a video using an integrated YouTube app or purchase goods through the iTunes music store or App Store, and play music and videos using the phones built-in controls.
Perfectly formatted presentations
While the iPhone and iPod touch do an amazing job of displaying web pages the way they were designed, iPhone visitors often want quick access to your website’s content. An iPhone microsite presents an optimized versions of your site’s content, formatted perfectly to fit the iPhone/iPod touch’s screen - say goodbye to microscopic text, zooming and fumbling through website content.
Enhances your current site

There is no foreseeable disadvantage to existing visitors. You may choose to serve your microsite automatically or present your users the option of visiting it. Either way, your iPhone-optimized microsite will provide enhanced browsing experiences for iPhone touch users while the rest of your visitors continue browse your regular site without interruption.
Pay off
An iPhone Microsite solves your website visitors usability problems and therefore increase page views, improve conversion rates and ultimately, your bottom line. The reason is simple, the “real” web does not display information in the same format as every other screen on the iPhone, and an iPhone Microsite does. Deliver content in a compelling fashion using a user interface that formats your data in the same manner as the phones other programs, and your users will thank you for it!

Use LinkedIn for Link Building

Many of you may know about Linkedin. If you don’t, then let me enlighten. Linkedin is a social networking site that targets business professionals. It is helpful in setting up relationships for business opportunities and partnerships. It also has a more social aspect that is gaining in popularity. And while the business networking aspect is great, I’m writing to tell you it can be useful for link building.

Link building is a mix of art and science and where many traditional SEOs fail because it requires the type of personality a marketer would typically have, not a web designer/coder.  While difficult, time consuming, and sometimes extremely frustrating link building has become one of, if not the most important piece of SEO. Almost anyone can handle taking care of on site SEO so to differentiate yourself and rank where you want in the Search Engines you need to get high quality links.  Linkedin while not an actually a source of valuable links because they are no-followed is a valuable and robust platform for finding high quality links.

One of the best ways I have found to use Linkedin for my clients is to look at their recommendations.  The recommendations section in Linkedin allows users to have other Linkedin users to write a short blurb about their experience with that individual and give their review of that persons skills and or business.  These people have already said that they like that person and their work.  These should become the first targets on your list for links.  Before reaching out to these individuals first do some analysis of their sites.  Look at both their corporate sites and blogs and see how authoritative they are and how well they rank themselves.

Next is the hard part, you need to actually get in contact with these people.  While I will not go into details on this and save it for a later post, it should be done with an email and a follow up phone call and make sure you have articulated your argument for why the link would be appropriate or beneficial for both sides.  These requests are a good start for anyone just getting started in link building because  you will get less resistance because the individual you are reaching out to already has shown they approve of the person or site you want the link to.

Our team of web marketing experts at Levonsys will create a SMO strategy that will give your website a good position and exposure in Social Media websites, which in turn will generate targeted traffic and also help create customer loyalty, brand identity among your targeted customers.

Black Hat SEO Techniques Will Get You Banned

Google has its own parameters for punishing a website when it manipulates the Google algorithms for ranking a site. It is not that Google loves to punish you but a system to prevent the bad SEO practitioners from taking the advantage of using short cuts or better say bad SEO techniques.

Being punished by Google is the biggest nightmare any SEO company can have as it affects the reputation of the company and also it is very difficult to handle dissatisfied clients. Clients who pay thousands of rupees for SEO heat up the flame when they are unable to find their site on the Google ranking page.

The process of punishing a site by Google is called banning or penalizing and when this happens Google will not tell you it has banned your site. Your site is said to be banned when there is a sudden fall in the rankings or when the site ranking automatically becomes zero.

What Are Black Hat Techniques?

  • Hiding Links on your pages: This technique puts links in very small images, some as small as 1 x 1 pixels. The visitor never sees them but search engines can.
  • Repetition of keywords on your pages: It is recommended not to repeat keywords excessively in your body text or tags. This technique is used to try to add relevancy for that particular keyword/phrase.
  • Text that is not visible to your visitor: When text is hidden off page or is the same color as the page background, search engines consider it spam. You could easily get caught without even knowing it! For example; let's say your page background is white and you have a dark green color block with white text on it.  The work around would be to change the white text to a light grey or light green, any color that is different than the white background.
  • Doorway or Gateway Pages: These are pages that have been designed to rank high on search engines. They are then set to redirect visitors to the actual website.
  • Link Exchange Free For All (FFA): There are sites that let anyone add banners or links, even if they are not relevant to the site content. Most search engines like to see "relevant links".
  • Cloaking Technique: This technique hides code from the visitor while offering search engine spiders customized content.
The best approach to avoid Black Hat SEO techniques is to simply build sites for your visitors. Your goal should be to make your site user friendly and incorporate relevant information. All search engines publish their own guidelines. The best approach to avoid being penalized is to review these guidelines and follow them.

At Levonsys, we are constantly researching and innovating with new Search Engine Optimization techniques to ensure we are giving clients the best possible SEO services, and the best possible results. Our Search Engine Optimization goals may be ambitious, but we also make sure they are achievable by using tried and tested ethical Search Engine Optimization techniques.

Mobile Website Optimization

Optimize your mobile website to boost your sales. When we refer to optimization the first thing that comes to our mind is SEO. We know and understand that this will help us improve traffic. But, we many times ignore mobile media. That a large number of people use mobile phones for internet and are many times frustrated when unable to find a site they want to go through or when the site looks blur on mobile browser. One should always keep in mind that search engines work not the same for mobile phones. However what can be effective is good short content like a sales line.

Mobile media refers to a vast area of non-voice or SMS activities of mobile. It mainly covers four categories like downloading, entertainment, non voice/SMS communication and informational. Mobile phones with their user friendly internet applications are becoming popular among the people. A large increase in the number of mobile internet users has been noticed.

More and more people have started using the internet on their mobile phones rather than home or office computers. More than 550 million people use mobile phones in the US, it proves that mobile internet users should not be ignored while making and optimizing a website. Mobile websites should be visibility centered rather than content or information.  Mediums providing with instant value like ring tones, screen savers, free game or discounts in coupon forms for a product or service should be emphasized on. Quality formatting as well as clear site appearance on the various mobile browsers is equally important.

Here are a few tips for getting your mobile set up to speed, both for visitors as well as search engines:
  • Audience Need - Determine why your visitors are visiting your site and prioritize your site relevant to your user's needs.
  • Simplify - Keep your mobile site simple; computer users can afford both the bandwidth and the system processing required for the latest whiz-bang technologies, mobile users cannot.
  • Images Optional - Again, mobile use means less bandwidth, so don't keep your visitors waiting for pages to load by using large or excessive images.
  • Sub-Domains - Your visitors are used to your brand; mobile.yoursite.com is still better than yoursite.mobi, so keep it that way.
  • Testing - Your users should not be your website testing crew; test your site with mobile devices and emulators, and when you're done, test again.
